The current lighting at St. Mary’s is badly dated and failing and it is to be replaced with a modern LED based lighting system.
We are currently waiting for the approval of a faculty to start the work, but we are hoping it should be installed this year and fund raising has begun.
The existing lights, almost 60 years old, in the nave and the chancel are in urgent need of replacement. An estimate of around £31,000 has been accepted but VAT should be able to be reclaimed.
The new lights will be modern LED lamps on both sides of the nave which are more efficient and cheaper to run and will include a dimming facility.
Once final approval has been received from the Diocese, the work should only take two to three weeks to complete and this will be done in plenty of time for the autumn.
Everyone, quite rightly, expects the Church to be both lit and warm when they come to a service or to visit. Can you imagine what the reaction would be if the lights or heating were not working?
Are you able to help by making a donation towards the cost of the work?
You might like to sponsor a light for as little as £20!
If you are a tax payer you may donate by using the Gift Aid envelopes provided which means the church can re-claim income tax of 25% on those donations at no extra cost to the donors. Please quote ‘Lights’ on your envelope.
If you are able to give an amount, however small, this would be appreciated and you can make payment directly to the bank or by cheque, details of which are below, or give to Joycelyn or Judith on Saturday or Sunday mornings.
By cheque: payable to ‘PCC of St. Mary’s Tutbury’.
